Profile:
I have always been a keen sportsman and actively involved in competitive sports. Initially as a junior swimmer and then in early adult life as a competitive kitesurfer.
In 2013 I decided I needed a new challenge in my life. Never being one to do things by half I made the decision to enter a full-distance Ironman. I had never completed a triathlon before and so my journey into the world of endurance multi-sport racing was a true baptism of fire.
In the build up to Ironman UK in 2014 I completed a number of local triathlons to gain some race experience. I enjoyed early success, finishing in the top 10 in my first race. Despite my early race naivety (which included racing in mountain bike shoes) I finished Ironman UK in 11 hours 59 minutes. Around the same time I learned about the British Triathlon programme for age-group athletes and started to wonder whether I was competitive enough to qualify to represent GB.
I completed many triathlons over the following years, over all distances, but also began to focus more on the specialism of aquathlon, building on my strength as a swimmer. In late 2016 I entered my first aquathlon and immediately achieved a GB age group qualifying time. In 2017 I went to Bratislava For the European Championships and wore my GB tri-suit for the first time. I finished 7th in my age-group. I have since raced at other European and World Championships. A particular highlight was finishing in 5th at the 2018 ITU World Championships in Denmark.
I continue to race as a GB Age Group Aquathlete but have turned my attention more towards triathlon again. In August 2020 I raced the Cotswold Classic Middle Distance Triathlon and achieved a time of 4 hours 43 minutes.
Moving forward, my goals are to continue to represent GB in various disciplines and to qualify for the Ironman 70.3 World Championships.
Of Greepers David says:
“Transition – the often-overlooked 4th discipline in triathlon. Speed is crucial, but only if the feet are comfortable enough to perform once on the run. Having narrow feet elastic laces are just not a satisfactory option to get the fit I need. Greeper Laces are the perfect solution – a fast and secure fit, with the added bonus of there being no risk of my laces coming undone mid-race!”
